Tired of waiting for news about GTA 6, fans are starting to create a game map themselves

It’s been a year since the first record-breaking trailer for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 dropped, and there hasn’t been any real news about the game since.

While some fans are waiting for GTA 6 Moon to know when we’ll hear more, others are taking matters into their own hands – going back to last December’s trailer and using it to craft parts of the game for themselves.

In the video below from YouTuber Dark Space there are several shots that at first glance could be mistaken for the real thing. The video shows a street from Vice Beach and part of the center of Stockyard, recreated using custom assets and the GTA 5 engine.

“I made GTA 6 before GTA 6.” Watch on YouTube.

Dark Space later simulates a supposed cutscene in which players apparently attach a chain to a safe in order to break it out of a pawn shop on a truck. That being said, it will be interesting to see how close it all looks to the final version when the time comes.

There is also a section where we see the approximate size of the GTA 6 map from above as the plane flies over both it and the GTA 5 map at the same speed. The takeaway here is that GTA 6’s map will be larger than its predecessor’s – although that’s to be expected, and precise measurements are probably best saved for the final game.

Publisher Rockstar Take-Two plans to release GTA 6 at the end of 2025. Next year will be a big one for the company, with Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country also due out between April 2025 and the end of March 2026.

This isn’t the first time a GTA 6 trailer has been recreated. Earlier this year, fans remade the video using real footage and actors.

Speaking of actors, our own Christian Donlan recently took a look at Grand Theft Hamlet, a powerful documentary about GTA Online’s production of Shakespeare that brings new nuances to both the game and the bard.
