Path of Exile 2 developer ‘not interesting enough’ amid upcoming changes
Developer Grinding Gear Games has admitted that Path of Exile 2 is “not interesting enough” amid plans to “urgently” update the game.
An extensive post on the game’s community forum details a number of changes based on feedback received over the game’s launch weekend last week. Some changes have already been implemented, while others will be rolled out in a future patch.
“There’s a lot more to come,” it said. “The list in this post represents some of the things we believe need more urgent attention.”
The main stumbling block is that the game is “not useful enough” with a plan to change items, rare monsters, currency and map mods.
“This is an area where we have to be very careful when tuning because it is very difficult to reduce the drop if we increase it too much,” the developer said.
Rewards for defeating rare monsters have been increased, which should improve the ending. Specifically, the rarity bonus for a rare mod has been doubled, the quantitative bonus for a rare mod has increased by 10 percent, and the likelihood of rare monsters having more modifiers has increased.
“These changes will cause the rewards for rare monsters to naturally increase as you progress to higher levels, because the number of modifications a monster can have increases throughout the campaign and into the endgame,” the post reads.
Additionally, drop rates for various currencies have been increased, and rewards for the increased difficulty of map mods have been “significantly increased.”
Other changes in Path of Exile 2 include: improving evasion so that players don’t get trapped as often; new checkpoints were added to prevent old positions from being repeated; The “Move Only” command is no longer blocked to prevent characters from attacking in the wrong direction; and rare monsters will appear more easily on the mini-map, speeding up progress in the end game.
The full list of changes can be found on the Path of Exile 2 forum.
Ahead of the game’s release last weekend, Path of Exile 2’s director warned of possible queues and server problems. Despite this, the game got off to a great start on Steam, peaking at 578,569 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.
“Path of Exile 2 shows off its blockbuster capabilities here and shows that it lives up to all the expectations placed on it and is capable of going toe-to-toe with the greatest titans of role-playing games,” says our review of Path of Exile 2’s Early Access progress.
