Elden Ring Nightreign presented at The Game Awards 2024
A New Elden Ring Game Is Coming Soon – And It’s Not Elden Ring 2. The announcement was made Thursday at The Game Awards 2024. Elden Ring Nighttrain is FromSoftware’s new 2022 multiplayer co-op action RPG coming out next year.
Existing Elden Ring players may think, “But… Elden Ring Is this already a multiplayer co-op game…?” It’s true, but new The Elden Ring game is something completely different. Elden Ring Nighttrain Described as a “multiplayer co-op survival game,” according to a press release, three players will have to work together on an “ever-changing map” to defeat the “Night Lord.” In other words: it’s a lot like a roguelike with procedurally generated playthroughs.
All action will take place in Limveld, a place located in a “universe parallel to the events of Elden Ring” Players will have eight unique characters – each with their own unique ability – to choose from before diving into each expedition. Over the course of three in-game days, you’ll fight bosses and collect loot to prepare for the final battle with the Night Lord. But don’t worry, dying to the Night Lord won’t cost you everything; players will keep relics after each playthrough to “customize and upgrade their characters” to suit their playstyle.
In the trailer, we saw several large-scale boss battles and options for fighting monsters with other players. The packaged trailer showed what appears to be a whole new area that you’ll be able to explore in new ways, including the ability to grab onto a ghostly eagle to fly or climb walls.
Elden Ring fans will likely be picking up all the new weapons and spells in the trailer, but we can already spot some cool new additions, like the ability to sprout wings and swoop down on enemies. Given the size of some of the bosses at the end of the trailer, you’ll probably need everything in your arsenal to take them down. One fight against a man riding a giant wolf is reminiscent of the sandy arena Radan is in, but discolored and covered in fire. Interestingly, there is also a blue circle that appears to be moving inward, suggesting that you’ll have to stay mobile to avoid being swallowed by it before the run ends.
Original Elden Ring was released in 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, and Elden Ring Nighttrain will be available on the same platforms in 2025.
Earlier this year, Reuters reported that Chinese company Tencent was working on a mobile version of the Elden Ring IP. Tencent has created adaptations of popular franchises such as Call of Duty, Monster Hunter and PUBG. We’re still waiting to hear how Tencent and one of its subsidiaries might interpret the Elden Ring series for the mobile phone gaming audience.
