New trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 debuts at The Game Awards 2024
The Outer Worlds was a delightful surprise back in 2019, and it seemed like Obsidian Entertainment was playing to its strengths. The player awakens from a cryo-vault in a hyper-capitalist region into space and is given full control to sneak, fight, talk and plan their way through intrigue on multiple planets with a group of satellites. Obsidian revealed the sequel to the game back in 2021, but the trailer revealed little beyond the familiar visuals and snarky voiceover. At The Game Awards 2024, Obsidian showed off more of what we can expect from the game. The Outer Worlds 2.
The trailer is also quite cheeky, promising “everything the first game should have had: more action, more weapons and more… graphics?” The trailer also shows off some great gunplay, with weapons that freeze enemies and let you smash them to pieces, or fast lightning orbs, or launching orbs that incinerate everything in their path. It’s still possible for crazy people like me to sneak through the facility and stab everyone to death.
We also got a good look at some of the environments and corporations that players will encounter throughout the game. This includes large cities, worlds covered in gnarled vines, a frosty object on an ice-covered world, and some very nice pink trees.
The Outer Worlds 2 is due out in 2025, and Obsidian ends the trailer with a “stay tuned” message. Although Obsidian is a Microsoft studio, the game will be available on both Xbox and PlayStation, as well as PC, at launch.
