Squid Game: Unleashed is free to play for everyone, including non-Netflix subscribers.

  • Squid Game: Unleashed is available free to Netflix subscribers
  • Sorry, we wanted to add “and for everyone.”
  • Yes, the upcoming battle royale based on the Korean drama is literally free!

The upcoming release of Squid Game: Unleashed is exciting, but I don’t think I’m the only one who has wondered whether Netflix Games, an excellent service that’s unfortunately not that well known, could support a multiplayer release like the battle royale. Looks like someone up there can read minds because Netflix has announced Squid Game: Unleashed as free for everyone. including not Netflix members.

This means that whether you have a subscription or not, you can still play! This is a genius move on Netflix’s part and I believe it will give Squid Game: Unleashed a big boost when it releases on December 17th. And what’s best? There are still no ads or in-app purchases in the app!

In retrospect, this decision seems stunningly obvious. Netflix has gone from delivering DVDs nationwide to becoming a true media giant. And the ability of their gaming products to support their shows, especially with the second season of Squid Game, has always been powerful.

Many men wish me dead

You probably don’t need me to talk about the features of Squid Game: Unleashed, but once again it’s my pleasure. Squid Game: Unleashed can best be described as a more violent version of Stumble or Fall Guys. You will be taken through mini-games inspired by the deadly Korean drama, in which debtors compete in underground death games to win a huge cash prize. The winner is the one who survives; simple.

It should probably also be noted that this announcement was made at the Big Geoff’s Game Awards in Los Angeles. The awards have drawn some criticism in the past for focusing more on the broader media landscape than just games, but Netflix managing to tie promotion of the newest season of arguably its breakout show to a major gaming announcement may be putting an end to this criticism; at least for now.
