The console is big, the PC is bigger, the mobile phone Really big; but even we must bow to the king of them all – pinball. Yes, even decades after its invention, the humble pinball machine that was once on the road to destruction (yes, really) is still going strong and bigger than ever. Now the latest in Zen Studios’ pinball series has arrived in Zen Pinball World for iOS and Android.

Zen Pinball World boasts twenty different tables, each one unique, and many of them feature popular movies and TV series. Whether it’s The Princess Bride, South Park, Battlestar Galactica, or Borderlands, Zen Pinball World lets you jump in and play anywhere, anytime, completely free (albeit with a few ads thrown in).

Yes, as much as some may admire the collaborations, before the advent of mobile or even branded video games, the humble pinball machine turned even the strangest franchises into money-making machines. Zen Studios has created its own mini-empire of pinball machine simulations on mobile devices, and Pinball World will be their biggest game to date.

It’s not so soulless now, right?

So far, Zen Pinball World’s reception has been generally positive, although the advertising has caused a bit of anger as well as some performance issues. I have no doubt that the latter will be eliminated, but what surprises me most is how many big names are included.

I know the world of pinball branding must be complicated, but considering all the nonsense most crossovers in things like Fortnite have to go through, seeing things like Knight Rider and Borderlands sitting next to Xena: Warrior Princess. – this is nothing more than a surrealist.
