Sony is working on Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2

Sony seems determined to turn every PlayStation game in its library into a movie or TV show – and it’s continued on that path by announcing it’s developing live-action films based on Horizon: Zero Dawn And Helldivers 2.

The news was shared by PlayStation Productions head Assad Qizilbash during Sony’s CES press conference in Las Vegas late Monday. Both films are in the early stages of development and have yet to attract any talent – at least not something Sony wanted to make public.

Last year’s surprise hit Helldivers 2 is a co-op online shooter where players take on the role of armored space commandos fighting hordes of bugs and robots. Any adaptation will have to deal with the enormous and obvious debt it owes to Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 satirical action masterpiece. Starship Troopers. Qizilbash said that PlayStation Productions is working with Sony Pictures on the adaptation.

Horizon: Zero Dawnan open-world adventure game in which post-apocalyptic huntress Aloy battles giant robotic animals appears to be intended as a major film project. Qizilbash said that PlayStation Productions was developing the film in conjunction with Columbia Pictures, the leading film brand of Sony Pictures, which has already released films based on Grand Tourism And unknown. “Imagine Aloy’s beloved origin story, set in a vibrant, far-future world filled with giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen,” teased Qizilbash.
