Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Announces Closed Beta Coming This Month
- Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will hold its first closed beta on Android and PC
- Netmarble’s upcoming adaptations offer third-person action and adventure in Westeros.
- Registration is now open, beta testing begins January 15th!
Netmarble’s upcoming release Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, based on the book series of the same name by George R.R. Martin and the HBO show, will debut in closed beta later this month. Android apps launch January 15th and run until January 22nd in the US, Canada and parts of Europe!
While previous mobile adaptations of Game of Thrones focused more on strategy and other genres more suited to the series’ high-level intrigue, Kingsroad puts you in the shoes of one character. Becoming heir to the little-known House Tyre through a series of strange incidents, you will travel the land of Westeros, fighting enemies and gaining prestige.
Of course, a look at the trailer offers us a very similar experience to The Witcher. Third-person exploration and combat are combined with the ability to split into three separate classes, such as Mercenary, Knight and Assassin. It all looks impressive enough, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, after all.
Winter is coming (well, it’s already here, but you know that I keep in mind)
Registration for the closed beta is open until January 12th, so hurry up before it ends! In my opinion, while Game of Thrones: Kingsroad does look impressive, I have no doubt that it will also attract a lot of attention. While Game of Thrones’ heyday of pop culture dominance may have passed, it still has a dedicated fan base that has been waiting for such a local release.
This means that monetization and other aspects will likely be a big challenge. As does a long-term plan and support. But if Netmarble manages to survive, they may well be able to get the experience that Game of Thrones fanatics have been craving.
