Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake details emerge as leaker reveals it will release in June

Fresh details about the long-rumored but yet to be announced Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake have emerged in a new leak, with rumors that it could very well arrive this June.

Rumors of an Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake allegedly being developed on Unreal Engine 5 first surfaced in July 2023, when a former Virtuos employee posted on Reddit that the Chinese studio was in development. It’s interesting that the references to Oblivion remaster then emerged later that year and was seen in a 2020 Microsoft internal document that was leaked during the company’s litigation with the Federal Trade Commission, lending at least some credibility to the earlier claim.

But this was not the end. Earlier this month, Virtuos’ technical art director updated his LinkedIn profile to mention an “unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake,” and now another former employee has – seemingly unintentionally – shared more candid details about Virtuos’ Oblivion remake on his own website.

As reported by MP1st, an unnamed employee who reportedly worked on the project between 2023 and 2024 described the game as a “completely remade” version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, developed (as previously reported) in Unreal 5. They say that the former Virtuos employee also mentioned six game systems that were redesigned for the remake: stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, hit reaction, etc. HUD.

The new locking system, as summarized by MP1st, is said to have been inspired by games including Souls and replaced the original system, which was considered too “boring” and “frustrating”, and archery has been improved to make it “more playable and modern » with first and third person views. Meanwhile, the new stamina system is described as “less frustrating” as the knockdown that occurs when stamina is depleted is now less frequent.

As for the updated stealth in Oblivion, it will apparently highlight stealth icons and rework damage calculations, as well as introducing hit reactions to improve reactions to damage dealt to the player and NPCs. Additionally, MP1st reports that a former employee has discussed an updated HUD designed to be “clearer and more aesthetically pleasing to younger players.”

MP1st’s report follows recent claims from reliable leaker NateTheHate that Bethesda’s remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion will release this June. First of all, of course, Bethesda would really need to announce it – and with Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct currently scheduled for next week, that possibility is looming.
