Path of Exile 2’s first 2025 patch will release later this week and will feature “more useful” endgame cards and the ability to revive when fighting high bosses.
In a promotional video posted on streamer Darth Microtransaction’s channel, Grinding Gear Games revealed what to expect from Path of Exile 2’s first patch of the new year. Game director Jonathan Rogers described it as a quick update that addresses common complaints, with more far-reaching balance changes planned for when PoE2 gets a new league. Some highlights of version 0.1.1 include:
- Changes designed to make endgame mapping “more useful.”
- Quality of life improvements, such as the ability to override runes and other sockets.
- Four new Towers and significant changes compared to those already in the game.
- Adding respawns to top content, starting with Arbiter of Ash.
Speaking in an extended interview following the seven-minute video, Rogers and fellow PoE2 game director Mark Roberts explained that the respawn system would soon be widespread in other top brawls, perhaps even in 0.1.1, but that the Arbiter of Ash was the only one that they were willing to guarantee for an update due to time constraints. By default, players will have six respawns in combat, and this number decreases as difficulty increases.

The new Towers seem like a particularly significant addition: the only one introduced at PoE2’s Early Access launch in December will be complemented by four more. Along with this endgame change, 0.1.1 will see changes to the amount of loot and the number of monsters on endgame maps, and Rogers says this should result in a “more rewarding” mapping experience.
As for what’s next after 0.1.1, Rogers said GGG has “a huge amount of much more meta changes planned.” “One of the best things about playing in Early Access with an ending is that we now have a much better idea of where we want the character’s power to be, and what the balance of bosses and monsters should be relative to that,” Rogers explained . “But such changes will have to wait until we are ready to create a new League with a new economy for people to play in.”
