Path of Exile 2’s first major patch brings big changes to endgame content

Later this week, Path of Exile 2 will receive its first major patch, 0.1.1, which primarily brings some big changes to end-game content.

There’s even more planned for a future update, as game director Jonathan Rogers explained in a new video (below).

“We have a huge number of much more meta changes that we know we want to make,” he said. “And one of the best things about playing in Early Access with an ending is that we now have a much better idea of where we want the characters’ powers to be and what the balance of bosses and monsters should have to do with that. But such changes will have to wait until we are ready to create a new league and a new economy in which people can play.

“It’s still a little while before that happens, but in the meantime we will continue to identify things that are causing frustration and try to resolve them.”

So what are the biggest changes?

Firstly, the balance of monsters, chests, essences and other materials on the maps has been changed. This is done to make the maps more interesting to explore.

Four new towers were also added, as previously there was only one tower map available, to improve variety. The existing map has also been “redesigned” to make it “less boring to play.”

There will also be more boss maps created since the speed was previously incorrect. Moreover, Pinnacle content currently takes too long to access, and players only have one attempt at fighting the boss. Citadels will now appear within reach on the map, and bosses will have six respawn attempts – although only on the Arbiter of Ash boss for now.

Other quality of life changes include: better visibility of attack effects due to reduced map clutter; Changes have been made to safes to allow monsters to spawn faster; Atlas zoom level increased; eliminating terrain collision problems; the ability to overwrite item sockets with new runes; and other boss balance changes.

Full patch notes will be posted later this week when the patch goes live. In the meantime, watch the video above for more details.

Developer Grinding Gear Games admitted back in December that Path of Exile 2 was “not useful enough” and listed a number of tweaks it was working on. It is clear that the developer is not slowing down; the game was released in early access.

“Soul-inspired thrills combined with incredibly strong production values make Path of Exile 2 an extremely impressive product, even in Early Access,” says our Path of Exile 2 review.
