Reports Say Nintendo Switch 2 Coming Soon
Nintendo is expected to finally unveil the Switch 2 in just a few days.
The industry rumors that Eurogamer heard last week have coalesced around the announcement this Thursday, January 16, with a focus on the console itself, about which so much has been leaked, rather than a deep dive into its software lineup.
Today, these rumors were mentioned publicly for the first time on the Nate the Hate podcast, which previously revealed Microsoft’s plans for multi-platform publishing. They write on The Verge’s social networks Tom Warren confirmed that he also understands that Nintendo plans to unveil the Switch 2 this week.

While Nintendo hasn’t announced anything yet, and announcement plans are always subject to change, the growing feeling that this week is – finally – the week we’ll officially see the Switch 2 for the first time matches what Eurogamer has previously heard about Nintendo’s announcement timing.
Eurogamer has been tracking the Switch 2’s path to release over the past few years and exclusively reported that the system’s capabilities were shown off to developers at Gamescom in the summer of 2023. We believed that an early 2025 reveal was inevitable as Nintendo was aiming to achieve this last Christmas. from Switch 1, but there was the question of when it would unveil the console’s successor ahead of its self-imposed March 31 deadline and amidst a growing ocean of leaks.
Nintendo’s reveal of the Switch 2 hardware when it arrives will finally put an end to speculation surrounding the console’s form factor, before a full reveal of its launch lineup is expected at a later date.
As for the console’s actual launch, Eurogamer previously reported that the Switch 2 won’t launch until April, in line with earlier plans that saw its release pushed back to 2025 to ensure it launches with the strongest possible launch line-up.
This week’s announcement also fits nicely with the industry’s focus on CES last week, as well as the week ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday, January 23rd.
