Helldivers 2 developer will be involved in the film adaptation, but not as much as you hoped
Sony is continuing its big (and small) screen game, announcing films based on the Horizon and Helldivers series last week. Details were still pretty sparse at the time, but now Arrowhead commercial director Johan Pilestedt has confirmed one thing about the Helldivers 2 adaptation: the developer will be involved in the upcoming film, but in a somewhat limited capacity.
And that’s how it should be, says the leader.
This little tidbit comes from an exchange on social media platform X that was spotted by IGN. When one fan asked if the Helldivers 2 studio would be involved in the film’s production to ensure the adaptation was faithful to the source material, Pilestedt admitted that he had been “dodging the question” since the announcement.
“The short answer is yes. Long answer, we’ll see,” the CCO replied, before admitting that the Helldivers 2 development team “are not Hollywood people” and therefore “don’t know what it takes to make a movie.” “.
Given all this, Pilestedt said that the studio will not have the final say on the film. And in his opinion, it really shouldn’t be, which I think makes sense.
There is still no word on who will direct Helldivers 2. In fact, other than saying that the film is in development as part of a collaboration between Sony Productions and Sony Pictures, there is nothing more concrete to say at this time.
“I’m pleased to announce that we are working with Sony Pictures to develop a film adaptation of our incredibly popular PlayStation game, Helldivers 2,” PlayStation’s Asad Qizilbash said during its CES presentation last week.

Besides Helldivers and Horizon, Sony’s other adaptations include the recently announced Ghost of Tsushima anime for Crunchyroll, slated for release in 2027.
Meanwhile, The Last of Us season two is set to air this April. This release window was announced last week along with a trailer that showed two live-action re-imaginings of The Last of Us Part 2’s most impressive moments.
