Broken Sword 2: The Smoke Mirror remaster teases after last year’s “reforged” original

Following the launch of the well-received remaster of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars last year, developer Revolution Software has announced a similarly “reforged” version of the sequel to the beloved 1997 point-and-click adventure, Broken Sword 2: The Smoke Mirror.

Last year’s Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged took the original 1996 installment in the series, in which American tourist George Stobbart teams up with photojournalist Nicole Collard to uncover a global conspiracy, and carefully brought it to life with 4K backgrounds, reanimated sprites and enhanced audio and much more.

The end result, released for PC, Xbox and PlayStation last September (with a Switch version coming a little later), was received positively by fans, and now Revolution has hinted that it’s preparing to give Broken Sword 2 a similar look.

As GameWatcher noted, Revolution Software boss (and Broken Sword designer) Charles Cecil concluded the studio’s recent Christmas video by looking at the concept art created for Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged. However, lurking at the bottom of the stack is another drawing – it depicts various versions of George Stobbart’s shorts and sunglasses outfit he wore while exploring the Central American town of Quaramonte in Broken Sword 2.

At this point, Cecil shrugged knowingly at the camera before the video cut to a close-up of George’s party gear, just in case it wasn’t obvious enough the first time.

A reforged edition of Broken Sword 2: The Smoke Mirror will undoubtedly be warmly received by fans (especially since it’s been fifteen years since the game was last remastered), but it’s unclear when Revolution will get its hands on it. The studio is still hard at work on the previously announced part six of the series, “Broken Sword – Parsifal’s Stone”, which is expected to release next year. Hopefully we’ll have more than just a tease soon.
