Diablo 4 will add sorcery to the game next season
Even though it’s vampire season, Diablo 4 there’s the next best thing: witches. Next season, everyone will be able to tap into the eerie energy deep within themselves and master unique abilities, such as summoning a giant frog and a swarm of burning bats.
Starting January 21st, Diablo 4 will be very different from a role-playing game in which good old sorcerers and barbarians are running around. A whole grimoire of new unique abilities has appeared that will disappear after the end of the season. And this will be the first time since Season 3 that Blizzard has deliberately altered the classic hack-and-slash gameplay style rather than simply introducing a new permanent feature – although there are some.
Diablo 4 The campaign introduces you to a large, morally sinister tree known as the Tree of Whispers. It whispers untold knowledge to people in exchange for their heads when they inevitably die. There are many reasons why the tree has been haunted since day one, but in the Season of Sorcery it is losing its heads and needs your help to bring them back.
Your seasonal character will join the clan of witches who protect him and hunt down new Rotten Head monsters to please the tree. The new seasonal quest will tell you all the details, but you will travel through the infected regions of the open world to kill the Puzzle and study the sorcerous powers. Some offer passive bonuses, such as movement speed or extra damage, while others are more powerful, such as the ability to summon a frog that licks monsters with a poisonous tongue and then explodes with even more poison. There are also rare Lost Powers that you’ll have to find in dungeons, and one of them allows you to spin a piranha tornado called the Piranhado.
Blizzard has a list of other quality of life improvements coming this season, including the ability to save and switch between different character loadouts. There are also class balance changes coming and will be discussed live this Thursday. They’re first on the chopping block, but I wouldn’t be surprised if new witch powers send them back to the top again.
