Suicide Squad: Kill Justice League Brings Back Dead DC Heroes
The latest piece of content for Rocksteady Studios Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League landed this week, and it effectively and unceremoniously undoes the dramatic deaths of two more members of the Justice League. In episode 8 Kill the Justice LeagueTask Force X successfully kills the last remaining Brainiac, then – Look to the sky! This is a spoiler! — Superman and Batman appear, completely alive and seemingly unharmed.
Final Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguenarrated by Harley Quinn, explains that Superman and Batman were apparently trapped inside Brainiac’s lair the entire time. Now that the surviving Justice League is freed from Brainiac’s control, they will redeem themselves by freeing the citizens of Metropolis from their alien oppressors and visiting various alternate realities influenced by other Brainiacs to reform them.
As for Task Force X, they put the bombs out of their heads and went to Otherworld to live their best lives, free from Amanda Waller’s control.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League players killed off some of DC’s most famous superheroes over the course of the 2024 game – much to the dismay of Batman fans who were unhappy that Kevin Conroy’s latest video game role as the Caped Crusader dealt with him in such a disgraceful manner. But the final scene Kill the Justice LeagueThe final episode of the story explains that Batman and Superman, who were previously killed by Task Force X, were clones created by Brainiac. Freed from their purple crystal prisons, Bats and Supers can seemingly rejoin Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse canon as if nothing ever happened.
Previous story episodes have seen players restore intact versions of the Flash and Green Lantern, as well as undo the deaths of those heroes. But Wonder Woman, killed by the evil (clone) Superman during Kill the Justice Leaguethe story will obviously remain dead in Rocksteady’s game. The good news for Diana is that she is working on her own game, although it is unclear whether Monolith Productions will Wonder Woman will exist in the same continuity as Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse.
The rebirth of the Justice League without Wonder Woman occurred over the course of several post-launch additions to the game. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewhich also introduces new playable characters. One of the new additions to Task Force X is the alternate universe Joker, who is very different from the one voiced by Mark Hamill in the Batman Arkham games.
Given that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League based on the comics, it wouldn’t be surprising that the Justice League would return alive, and that their deaths would be meaningless in the long run. It’s also not surprising given the spate of leaks pointing to their return. Even Rocksteady hinted at one point in the in-game calendar that Batman would return, despite being shot in the head by Harley.
But the last chapter Kill the Justice League is still presented in the cheapest possible way, with few illustrations and a voiceover from one character explaining how the game’s once-shocking story will conclude. It’s a fitting ending to the saga of Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad, which has been plagued by delays, poor reception, massive leaks and technical problems. The good news is that everyone, with the possible exception of Wonder Woman, can move on.
