Riot Games closed its offices on January 9 due to the Los Angeles wildfires, and today the company confirmed in a news release that its offices are still closed following the crisis. “Our Los Angeles headquarters is located just a few miles from the Palisades fire and has remained closed since the fires began,” the statement said. “This crisis has deeply impacted our teams, with some rioters losing their homes and many others still evacuated. At times like these, our priority is their health and safety. We have taken steps to support rioters going through this difficult time by providing temporary housing, emergency scholarships and access to counseling services.”
The company is also using the platform of its popular video games to provide an opportunity for others to donate to ongoing relief efforts. “Starting January 22, we will launch in-game fundraisers in all Riot regions in Grade And League of Legends PC to provide assistance during global fires and other natural disasters,” the message says. “Proceeds will go to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, which will then donate funds to organizations helping recover from natural disasters in Southern California and around the world.”
IN GradeFrom January 22 to January 30, Riot will donate proceeds from player purchases of the EX.O Collection to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. For League of Legends PC players, the fundraiser will last from January 23 to February 5; Firefighter Tristana has been rescued from storage, and proceeds will also go to Riot Games’ Social Impact Fund.
Riot Games’ news release about the wildfire highlighted that this isn’t the only effort the company will make to support the local community: “Last week, we launched a Double Donation campaign for rioters, tripling their charitable contributions to organizations like the California Fire Foundation. Riot has also made direct donations to the California Fire Foundation and International Medical Corps to support relief efforts (…)
“Recovery doesn’t end when the fires are put out. Rebuilding communities takes time, and this crisis, so close to home at our headquarters, has inspired us to strengthen our commitment to disaster relief and prevention on a global scale.”
