Pokémon TCG Pocket Announces New Trading Feature and Gives Fresh Details on Its Implementation

  • Pokémon TCG Pocket will feature a new trading system that will allow you to trade and share just like in real life.
  • It’s set to be released later this month and will allow you to trade cards with friends.
  • The plan is for the team to continue to evaluate how it works and make changes as necessary.

One of the few pitfalls of the digital TCG scene is inevitably the lack of a physical aspect. Collecting cards, putting them in a folder, and ripping someone off at the local store for something you know is more or less valuable than it actually is. Luckily, Pokémon TCG Pocket saw this coming and is about to introduce a trading feature that will allow you to trade and share as if you were really there.

We now have more details on how this will actually work. To begin with, you can only exchange cards of one rarity and then only between friends. To exchange, cards must have a rarity of 1 to 4 or 1 star. Lastly, items must be consumed (meaning you cannot save your own copy) in order to trade them.

The system is set to go live later this month, and the Pokémon TCG Pocket team plans to evaluate how it works once it’s implemented.

I can see a few practical bugs in this system that could arise, but at the same time, for such a long-awaited feature as trading, I think this is one of the best implementations of it that we could expect. This, and the fact that the team will be evaluating how it works and tweaking it, is welcome news.

Of course, in our discussions about this feature, we noted that some rarity levels will not be available for trading. I’m sure this, as well as the ability to use consumable currency for trading, will be clarified post-release.
