The real Geralt returns in Netflix’s new animated film to slay monsters and give thoughtful speeches about the shortcomings of humanity.

Netflix’s next animated adventure in the world of The Witcher has just received a new debut trailer, and this time Geralt has matured and returned to his usual witcher antics: fighting monsters and trying to reason with bloodthirsty and scared people.
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is based on the short story “A Little Sacrifice” by The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski. In it, Geralt and Dandelion travel to the port city of Bremervoord after the local prince Agloval hires them to help woo the mermaid Sh’inaz. Needless to say, the story goes awry when both lovers realize that neither of them wants to give up their current comfortable lifestyle to live with the other, and war almost breaks out between the two kingdoms.
We’ve already seen a couple of teaser trailers for Sirens of the Deep. But this only confirmed what kind of story will be going on, as well as the fact that Geralt in this upcoming film will be voiced by Doug Cockle, the original voice of Geralt from the Witcher games, and not Henry Cavill. But now, thanks to the release of the official debut trailer, we’ll be able to see even more of what this adventure will entail.
The best part about the trailer is all the new footage of the merfolk and monsters that live underwater. There’s a giant four-legged fish, an entire battalion of armed warriors, and even a Kraken that makes a little guest appearance at the end. The combat looks epic as always, and it will be interesting to see how Geralt manages to fight a bunch of mermaids and sea creatures while treading water in the sea.
But Sirens of the Deep isn’t all action and bloody monster battles, it also finds Geralt another potential love interest: Essie, who we’ll see in this new trailer. Traveling to Bremervord to avoid Yennefer and all the complications that would come with it, Geralt meets Essie while trying to track down the merfolk responsible for attacking some pearl divers. Although she instantly falls in love with him, Geralt has a harder time reciprocating her feelings. It’s a bit of a convoluted will-they-won’t-they story, and while the outcome isn’t very surprising, it’s still a touching story that does have implications for Geralt’s development with Yennefer.
I’m looking forward to Sirens of the Deep, especially after Nightmare of the Wolf. This animated Witcher movie is still one of my favorites on Netflix, which I even go back to from time to time to see all the great sword fights, beautiful chaos magic and young Vesemir. If the fights in Sirens of the Deep are anything like the fights in Nightmare of the Wolf, I’ll be very happy.
