Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy promises not to fix a serious bug related to speedrunning

Having learned about the key pass in speedruns Alan Wake 2 extension House by the lake During Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 in early January, developer Remedy Entertainment promised not to fix the bug that makes this strategy possible.

“Thanks to (AGDQ 2025) conducted by suavepeanut, House by the lake The development team discovered that the elevator could indeed be interacted with from the outside… and immediately decided that this would not be fixed,” the studio said on its official Bluesky account. “Please.”

The pass is basically as described by Remedy. At several points during House by the lakePlayers need to ride the elevator between different floors of the main building. But by controlling the elevator and selecting the desired floor from outside the vehicle after closing the doors, speedrunners can teleport between floors rather than sit through travel cutscenes.

While performing at AGDQ 2025, the current world record holder for House by the lake suavepeanut said each skip, which can be “challenging” due to the need to press four buttons at once, saves 20-30 seconds. Used successfully up to seven times over the course of a game, it can save a relatively large amount of time on a speedrun, which takes less than 20 minutes to complete.

It’s rare for a major studio to leave their game in less than perfect condition just to satisfy a small group of dedicated fans. Hollow Knight speedrunners, for example, are playing a much older version of the game because developer Team Cherry infamously fixed a lot of the bugs they used to beat the game as quickly as possible.

Remedy Entertainment did not immediately respond to Polygon’s request for comment.
