Dragon Age voice actor arrested on multiple charges, including revenge porn and harassment
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jonathan Reece, aka Greg Ellis, on multiple charges. The WBNG report said Reece surrendered at the sheriff’s office when asked before being “processed, charged and released” and that he would appear in court at a later date to face the charges. Rhys is known for his role as Cullen Rutherford in the Dragon Age series, first appearing in Dragon Age: Origins, as well as Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition.
The charges in question involve an unnamed woman referred to in court documents as Jane Doe. They charge Reece with “offering a false instrument” (i.e., a false document, form, etc.) in the first degree, as well as “unlawful surveillance in the second degree.” Other charges include making a false written statement, perjury, aggravated stalking, coercion and “unlawful distribution or publication of intimate images.”
Doe was reportedly in a relationship with Reece between 2016 and 2022 before breaking up with him and ending all contact – the documents accuse Reece of threatening Doe with “references to self-harm and disclosing Doe’s explicit content to a wide range of individuals.” audience.” The documents also accuse Reese of sending “illegal photographs” of Doe to her friends and family.
The report also states that in 2022, Reece “testified in open court and admitted to his attempt to use ‘revenge porn’ to extort Doe” – in response to which a restraining order was issued. Documents later say Reece tried to intimidate a third-party witness and threatened on social media to reveal Doe’s identity as retaliation.
Rhys has a history of controversy, such as this 2020 video in which the character (played by Cullen Rutherford) decries “intellectually brilliant people” and the “#metoo” movement and asks fans to “raise your flag against cancel culture” – before responding ( again, like Cullen Rutherford) to social media posts targeting Reece. Although many of his later tweets are no longer available, Rees also publicly burned bridges with Mark Darrah when he left Bioware that same year, calling him a “disloyal and two-faced corporate fake.”
Despite this attempt – and I’m quoting this video here – to “throw me and my voice actor Greg Ellis into the wasteland of cancel culture”, Rhys has starred in video game roles as recently as 2023, having voiced several roles in Hogwarts Legacy, and has also appeared in television and animation.
