Rhythm Control 2 revives an old classic released over a decade ago, now available on Android
- Rhythm Control 2 resurrects the original 2012 version for new devices.
- Find songs from Western and Japanese bands on Android.
- Tap to the beat and score incredible high scores!
One thing that has always struck me that mobile devices lack is a vibrant rhythm scene in the game. Sure, there have been a few big hits like Space Ape’s Beatstar, but most of the genre still seems to have a strong presence on PC and elsewhere. But we suddenly have a new entry: Rhythm Control 2 is now available on Android!
Eagle Eye and (my apologies) older readers may recognize this name, and that’s because Rhythm Control 2 was originally released back in the halcyon years of 2012. The original Rhythm Control reportedly topped the charts in Japan and Sweden, so a sequel seemed to make sense.
Rhythm Control 2 includes tracks from various Japanese and Western artists such as Bit Shifter, YMCK, Boeoes Kaelstigen and Slagsmålsklubben in a new format. Instead of clicking on falling icons, you’ll be presented with six nodes to click in sequence, which become increasingly challenging as you progress, with additional turns to adapt to.
Control yourself
Rhythm Control 2 strikes me as a worthy addition to the genre and a welcome return to mobile devices. As much as I like Beatstar, I always felt that the song selection there was too safe, for lack of a better term. After all, what is a rhythm game if not chasing high scores and trying to thwart some obscure Japanese techno song that creates a lifelong, debilitating interest in an equally niche genre?
What, just me?
Anyway, if for some reason you don’t want to return to the rhythm genre, why not branch out a little? Our latest list of the top five new mobile releases to try this week is here! And if you want to stay ahead of the game, why not read our article of the same name?
